Thiru. T.M. Kalianna Goundar was born on 10-01-1921 in Arakaraipatti village in Same District to Thiru. Muthu Nalli Goundar - Thirumathi. Pappaiyamaal. He completed his high school in Thiruchengodu Government School and his B.Com and B.A in Loyola College, Chennai.

He discontinued his M.A degree to join the Indian Freedom Movement. He later on completed his M.A degree in Pachaiyappa's college. He was made Sangaripatti's Zameendaar by his uncle Paramasivam and aunt Zameendaar Ms. Nalaayammal.

In 1947, at the age of 27, Mr. Kalianna Gounder was appointed as a member of the Indian Provisional Council.

In 1952, he was elected as the MLA of Rasipuram constituency. In 1957 and 1962, he was the MLA of Thiruchengodu constituency. In 1957 he was the Member of Legislative Council. He was also the Vice President for the opposition party Legislative Council.

He was made the President of the Salem District Jilla Board. After his term the Jilla board was disbanded.

Kalianna Gounder was the Vice President for Tamil Nadu Congress committee. He held the post as Treasurer for 8 years in the Tamil Nadu Congress committee. He was also the Director for Indian Bank, Senate member for Chennai university and Annamalai university.

He was the President for Salem district Literature Committee. He had also liberally donated his lands for the construction of many schools and temples in his district. He ad dedicated his life for the welfare of the people in the villages.

Tamil Nadu's Cheif Minister Ms. Jayalalitha honored our Kongu Poet Dr. C. Rasu with the U.V.S Award (U.V. Swaminatha Iyer Award)

Dr. Rasu was born on January 1938. He started his teaching career in 1959. He has received over 14 awards. He has participated in various World Tamil Conferences and also in Islamic Literature Conferences. He also participated in the World Tamil Conference 2010 and has written about 10 articles in various magazines about the conference.

He has published many books and has been writing Articles for various magazines. He also publish various articles in English.

Medical Center and Hospital to whom goes the credit of establishing the Kovai Medical Center Research and Education Trust and Dr.NGP Educational Institutions.

Hailing from a remote village, Nallampatti in Erode District, he obtained his MBBS and MD at Stanley Medical College, specialized in Internal Medicine at Cincinnati, Ohio and was awarded the fellowship in Endocrinology from Wayne State University, Michigan, USA. Dr.Nalla G Palaniswami served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Coimbatore Medical College and later worked as Intern at St. Joseph's Hospital, USA.

In collaboration with NRIs from USA, UK, Australia, Middle East and people from India, the KMCH was started with 200 beds which has now grown into a 700 bed super specialty hospital. The KMCH has set up six Community Rural and Women Centres and six Trauma and First Aid Centres in Coimbatore.

A man of great social conscience, he has designed educational programmes to instill sanitation habits and promote Health Awareness among the rural poor. As a philanthropist, he has donated towards construction of school buildings and lavatories worth one crore. Many needy ones are beneficiaries of his generosity. It is befitting that the Bharathiar University honours this exemplary person, a distinguished Doctor, Educationalist and Philanthropist with a D.Sc. on this special occasion.

Shri A.Sakthivel, a Padma awardee, is another towering personality whose ventures in diverse fields as yarn spinning, manufacture and export of knitwear and woven garments, tourism and hospitality have turned into path breaking achievements.

In fact, he has become an icon for entrepreneurial success in the Kongu region. His visionary projects have been instrumental in propelling the fast growth of the apparel sector in Tirupur.

Sensitive to the needs of the society, especially the less privileged this textile tycoon has set an example in Corporate Social Responsibility through his participation and contribution.

Few of his outstanding projects are TEKIC (Tirupur Export Knitwear Industrial Complex), ICD (Inland Container Depot), TEA Public School, TEAKTEX, KTM (Knitwear Technology Mission), NTADCL (New Tirupur Area Development Corporation Limited), NIFT-TEA Knitwear Fashion Institute, India Knit Fair, Netaji Apparel Park, Twic Ikfa Convention Centre and Test (Textile Eco Solutions Tamil Nadu Ltd). His expertise, advice and guidance have helped both policy makers and entrepreneurs. His philanthropistic and humanistic contributions are immeasurable. It is only apt that he be conferred the Degree of Doctor of Literature.

He was the first person to start a separate Geriatric Department in India, at Govt. General Hospital, Chennai and the first professor of Geriatric Medicine at the Madras Medical College from 1985 to 1997. He has to his credit more than 50 research papers and published 15 books in both Tamil and English. He is a regular contributor to newspapers, magazines, radios and TVs. He has made presentations in National and international Conferences, Seminars and Forums about Geriatrics in India. Recipient of the Dr.B.C.Roy National Award for the development of Geriatrics as a specialty, from the President 0f India.

The British Geriatric Societys 50th Anniversary Medal was given at London in recognition of his outstanding services in Geriatric Medicine in India. For his selfless services to the aged, Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust, Ludhiana, presented him with Sat Paul Mittal National Award. The Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai appointed him as Professor Emeritus, for his valuable services rendered in the field of Geriatrics and also conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science for his pioneering service in the field of Geriatric.

As Chairman of the Senior Citizens Bureau Chennai, he serves for the cause and care of the elderly.Established a Memory Clinic at Chennai, to render exclusive service to the Senior Citizens for nurturing their mental health. Nominated as Member in National Council for Older Persons (NCOP) by Ministry of Social Justice Empowerment, Government of India, 2007. An ardent devotee of Adhiparasakthi, he extends geriatric services to the rural aged at theAdhiparasakthi Hospital & Research Institute, Melmaruvathur which is 90 Km from Chennai.

Government of Tamil Nadu honoured him with "Best Social Worker" Award on the "World Elders Day" celebration on 08-10-2007. Honourable Minister for Finance Thiru K. Anbazhan presented the Award in the presence of Honourable Minister for Social Welfare Dr. Poonkothai Aladi Aruna.. Launched "Geriatric Housecall Programme" to render emergency Home Care service by the team of Doctors through Senior Citizenes Bureau.

Thiru. M.Murugesan, Chairman of NSIT & MGM Group of Companies having its head office at Chennai and Namakkal has been conferred Degree of Doctor of Literature by Open International University of Colombo, Sri Lanka for his contributions to the Industry and community services. Thiru. M.Murugesan is presently the President of Kongu Engineering Institutions, Erode which is one of the best and popular Engineering College in India. His contributions to the transport industry is well known and when the leading companies left the logistics business due to non support of remuneration and profit, he continued to modernize and make the logistics business a profitable venture. His vision and hard working has made NSIT & MGM Group a name to be recon with logistics.

Koottamaippu thankfully recalls his help and cooperation in granting 2 Free Seats every year to the Kalingarayar Students Scheme of Koottamaippu for the meritorious but economically weaker students. Koottamaippu congratulates him for the doctorate and wishes him many more such recognitions in the years to come.
